The City of Parlier faces the risk of losing a business coming to town. Starrrhub would have provided the city from 400 to 500 jobs, repre- sentatives said.
Center was expected to create hundreds of jobs
Staff report
Parlier might not get to see a potential call center that was in the works for the city.
Representatives with Starrhub — a Fresno business that offers a range of IT services — had been working with city officials since last March to bring a training call center to the city.
The call center was expected to create more than 400 jobs within two years, Starrrhub President Harpreet Bali said.
In August 2017, a majority vote approved a lease agreement with Bali for two buildings located at 741 and 741 and 1⁄2 Tulare St. This would allow representatives to get familiar to the Parlier environment before bringing
their business into town.
At the Aug. 31 meeting, City
Manager Sam Escobar said the deal was a commitment from the city to show its support to Starrrhub to make the project successful.
The company currently has a training center in Fresno and had plans of adding a second one in Parlier.
At the March 15 meeting Bali said the center not only would provide tech training but that they also would be hiring those individuals that would be trained.
Bali showed interest in lots 9, 4 and 5 in the city’s industrial park. She first opened escrow for lot 9 but never completed the process.
Due to health problems in her family, Bali was unable to close the escrow by the deadline. She said she requested a one week extension from the council but that extension was denied.
Bali said she later found out that lot had been sold to Genezen, LLC – a
cannabis manufacturing business that also will be coming into town.
Bali said she felt like the council already the intention of selling that lot to Genezen and as a result decided to deny her extension request.
Council Members Jose Escoto, Noe Rodriguez and Diane Maldonado voted to deny Bali's request, with Mayor Alma Beltran and Trinidad Pimentel voting to approve it.
Still interested
Escobar said Bali didn’t follow the required process.
Terms of the lease agreement
The terms of the agreement included a deposit of $500 for each property, totaling $1,000 for both.
Each property would be rented for $500 a month, with the initial six months rent-free.
While the lease was approved by a 3-0 vote — Maldonado, Pimentel and
