The problem In April 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdown, there was a severe water shortage at Rainbasera, which is used as a community centre during the day, and a shelter home for children, for approximately 25–30 children aged 6–18 years, at night. In addition, the water that was supplied was not potable as it had a high level of contamination, which deprived the children of a safe drinking water source. The reason for this was the existence of private unauthorized connections in the government supply line which resulted in mixing of water from the drainage channel. Madhu, in-charge of Rainbasera, faced a barrier in getting the issue resolved as the Delhi Jal Board was unresponsive to the problem. Just imagine what it would be like to function without water for a week and that too in times of COVID! Children were falling sick because they were unable to access a facility as basic as drinking water. – Madhu, in-charge of Rainbasera at Bhagwanpura The action they drafted a letter to the Jal Board on behalf of the community and got it signed by 25 Madhu contacted Rekha, the Save the Children community members. Additionally, when this community worker for Bhagwanpura, regarding letter was submitted at the Delhi Jal Board the problem of water shortage. Rekha worked office, they insisted on getting a formal receiving with Madhu to solve the problem and together called a ‘diary number’ for the complaint.
