  FOX COMPANY
WO2 (QMSI) P Welch RAPTC
This year has seen another busy schedule here at ‘the Military Academy of the North’ - The Army Foundation College (Harrogate), facilitating all things Physical Development (PD) for over 1100 Junior Soldiers (JS) and 300 Permanent Staff PS) members. Fox Coy has found itself in the unique situation where it saw a complete change of its Chain of Command; with Maj (MAA) Gareth (Maz) Maslin taking over the position of OC Fox Coy, relieving Maj (MAA) Grant Webster, marking the end of 34-years regular service within the British Army. Whilst WO1 (SMI) Chris Walsh took over the position of 2IC Fox Coy, with WO1 (SMI) Dan Brown departing to take on the coveted role as the RAPTC’s Corps Sergeant Major.
We have also seen another successful year for our RAPTC Selection pipeline driven by Sgts Rush & Dyson, which has seen an unprecedented three AAPTIs attend and pass the Selection process. The administration of various sporting competitions, including 4 Bde Cross- Country, Badminton, Volleyball and Netball, as well as the annual JS Inter Coy Athletics, organised by Sgt (SI) Rigby. The Resilience and Leadership Wing (RLW), formerly known as the L&IT Wing have continued their excellent AT delivery allowing JS to earn the coveted Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award; championed by the RLW Team (Sgts Jennings and Dyson). We also had the honour and privilege of our Corps SM visiting our Fox Coy RAPTCIs whilst attending our annual JS Inter Company Boxing Championships organised by Sgt (SI)Townsend.
2023-24 has also provided us with another opportunity to refine and develop our Physical Training Programme for CMS Future Soldier, which further aligns our

tactical S&C portfolio with the APTS and Phase 2 training. Op ACHILLES (Para JS support initiative) assisted by Sgt (SI) Rush with preparing our recruits seeking a career with the Parachute Regiment and our onsite PCRF with Sgts Rigby and Townsend, working tirelessly to ensure JS and PS are rehabilitated to a highly trained state whilst minimising any reversibility of training.
AFC(H) INTER COY BOXING COMPETITION 2024
Sgt (SI) Townsend RAPTC
One of the biggest events on the AFC(H) calendar is the Inter Company Boxing Competition. The competition is held at the beginning of February each year, but the planning and organisation starts months before. The JS will start their training around September time, with over 300 starting the process this year. This takes extreme dedication from the JS and the coaches, who not only have to spend hours training each
day for the boxing, but also must
keep up the demands of any training team of a phase one establishment. The challenging work is paid back in dividends when they are able to perform and show off their skills in front of a crowd of over a 1000 people, with VIP guests including GOC and Commander Home Command in attendance.
Each year the event has been a massive success due to the hard work of Fox Coy and AFC(H) PS, who lead with the set up and organisation of the event. Using the experience gained from previous events, Fox Coy work tirelessly to ensure the smooth running of the night and have made this year’s event the best one so far. Next year’s is certainly one to look out for.
