we transitioned from the Leadership and Initiative Training (L&IT) to the Resilience and Leadership Wing (RLW). This shift not only encompassed a complete step change to the branding and advertising of the Wing, but also revolutionised how we deliver Adventurous Training (AT) to JS and PS across AFC (H).
RLW is responsible for the planning, delivery, and execution of an array of AT packages to circa 1300 JS and 300 PS within AFC (H). The aim of RLW is to develop the qualities of a JS through values and standards-based Leadership and the Adventurous Leadership and Resilience Training (ALeRT) model using a combination of AT activities.
2023-2024 was ablaze with action, with the execution of AT packages weekly, ranging from Navigation and Mountaineering skills to the comprehensive multi-activity packages, comprising of Climbing, Kayaking/Canoeing and Caving. These activities not only enhance military

prowess, but also cultivate leadership and resilience training which will be crucial for the careers of the JS.
RLW take immense pride in witnessing JS transcend their limits and flourish in challenging outdoor environments. Moreover, RLW achieved a monumental milestone by successfully organising the first ever overseas Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) award. The expedition took place in Germany, where 100 JS earned their bronze award, fostering unforgettable experiences and igniting aspirations for future endeavours for future JS.
Amidst the intense pace, personal growth remains paramount for the RLW. It is a fundamental part for future success, that we advocate personnel to develop, to stay at the sharp end of what we are expected to deliver. 2023-2024 saw members of RLW venturing into North Wales, concentrating on 4-Star kayaking skills and Mountain Biking development, in preparation for their Mountain Bike Instructor courses. In addition, members had the opportunity to experience the mesmerising Nordic skiing expedition in Norway.
Beyond AT, it is of equal importance that we allow our members to pursue sporting excellence. 2023-2024 saw Sgt (SI) Dyson proudly represent the RAPTC Basketball Team and participated in an exhilarating Overseas Sports Visit (OSV) to Virginia, USA. Amid rigorous training and community engagement, culminating in an unforgettable match against the US
Army Team of Fort Gregg-Adams. Despite the loss, the experience was unparalleled. It has been a stellar year for Sgt (SI) Dyson as he was crowned with the Team’s ‘Rookie of the Year.’
2023-2024 has seen monumental changes for RLW, and recognition for these changes must be given as we bid farewell to Sgt (SI) Jennings and Maj (MAA) Maslin. We welcome the newest members of RLW, Capt (MAA) Laycock (OiC RLW), SSgt (SSI) Griffiths (CI), and Sgt (SI) Lewer, who have seamlessly integrated into the RLW family and are already gearing up to a prosperous 2024- 2025 training year.
