HRH The Princess Royal visits the STEM Day
Musicians from the Band of The Parachute Regiment entertain guests at the annual cocktail party
The annual Heritage Day saw some 15,000 members of the public descend on Sandhurst. Besides the numerous food and retail outlets, there were vintage vehicle displays, band con- certs, show-jumping and the Wellington College Field Gun run to entertain the visitors. The Sand- hurst Trust shop, as usual, occupied a prime position on the steps of Old College.
The Trust held the annual cocktail party and beat- ing of The Retreat. Again, the event was run jointly with the Surrey branch of ABF, The Soldiers’ Char- ity and some 400 people attended. The band of the Parachute Regiment under the directorship of Captain Matt Simons entertained the guests with music at the Grand Entrance before moving onto the square for an intricate marching display with a medley of traditional and modern music.
Another of the many activities The Trust sup- ports is Community Engagement. In September, 2,000 schoolchildren came to Sandhurst for a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) event held over two days, show- casing some of the careers on offer in the Armed forces and within wider industry. The stands included bridge-building, robotics and a display from the first all-female Army parachute team. HRH The Princess Royal was shown around the event by The Commandant.
