Kent District Association
It’s good to able to look back on 2022 as having been a ‘normal’ year for us at the Kent DA. A full programme of monthly meetings was enjoyed with some good speakers, but attendance has been a bit lower than in previous years. Our plant sale at the West Kent Garden and Craft Show in May was a successful weekend and brought in much needed funds to help run the DA.
Our DA Annual Show was held at Wingham Village Hall in September. Initially, with few entries coming
in, we were
concerned that
the Show may not
happen. What a
relief when a late
flurry of entries ensured that the Show would go on. Although the numbers of exhibitors and entries were a bit low, we still had a great Show with lots of quality vegetables on the bench. Thank you to all who played a part in making our Show
the success it was. Thanks go especially
to Mick and Linda Beer for making all
the necessary arrangements for the
hall and for providing excellent catering. Congratulations go to Roger Simmons
and Peter Ellis who, between them, won
all the trophies. Roger won the Collection of 4 Kinds of Vegetables and the Bert Park Trophy for most points. Peter won Best Exhibit in all classes for his dish of Minoprio cherry tomatoes. Full results for the Show are shown in the accompanying table.
As I write we are preparing the DA programme for 2023. Seeds have been ordered for the plant sale and the search is on for speakers for our meetings at Bridge.
