The RADC team
Our athletes demonstrated admirable effort during their events, overcoming nerves, pushing themselves hard and in many cases even volunteering for extra events, in order to help the team progress. They set an example for other to follow and demonstrate the Values and Standards we should all be looking to foster within the Corps.
I was particularly impressed with our collective display of RADC team spirit, which culminated in two nail biting team relay races to end the event. It was great to see such camaraderie in a Corps that is so often separated by role/geography.
I look forward to developing our RADC Athletics Team for next year’s event. It would be fantastic to see a stronger (and larger) RADC team for 2017 to join together, demonstrate the talent our Corps has to offer and show the rest of the AMS how proud we are to be Of cers and Soldiers of the RADC.

Army Individual Athletics Championship – 5000m Champion
Major Sarah Armstrong
The Army Individual Athletics Championship took place on the 18th May 2016 at Aldershot Athletics track. Individual athletes from across the Army competed at a range of track and eld events in order to be crowned Army Champion of their chosen athletics discipline.
Race Preparation:
5000m race preparation involved training twice a day in the months leading up to the event using a variety of training methods. Interval training, hill repetitions, tempo runs, and weights/strength training all played a part.
In addition, I was fortunate to be selected for the AMS Athletics training camp in Monte Gordo, Portugal. This involved a 2 week consolidated training package training 2-3 times each day at the Vila Real de Santo Antonio Sports Complex alongside other AMS athletes and national athletes from the Netherlands and Finland.
The Race:
Winning the 5000m race has really encouraged me to build up my training to compete at the next level. The Army have selected me to represent them during the 2016-17 road racing season which begins with the Great North Run in Sep 16.
