Military
Colonel Peter Jackson joined the then Territorial Army in March 1986 as Captain,
Royal Army Dental Corps (V)
in 224 (North Staffs) Field Ambulance (V). During his
time with 224 he deployed on exercise to various locations
in the UK and abroad to Cyprus, Holland, Belgium and Germany. During this period he progressed from commanding a eld ambulance section, through Unit Nuclear, Chemical and Biological (NBC) Of cer to Of cer Commanding (OC) Main Dressing Station,
a mobile resuscitation and casualty evacuation facility. He moved to 42 Brigade
as SO2 Med(V) 1994-1997 training in the UK, Germany and Hungary, providing medical advice to the Brigade Commander and overseeing the manning, equipping and training of Regimental Aid Posts. He moved to 208 (Liverpool) Field Hospital in 1997 and from 1997-2002 he was OC C Squadron,
and in addition from 1999- 2002 OC Clinical Squadron, responsible for all clinical activity within the hospital complex. He was awarded the Territorial Decoration in 1998 and subsequently promoted Lieutenant Colonel 1999.
He deployed to Bosnia in 2001 on a trial which he designed to test the feasibility of deploying reserve dental personnel onto operations. He was appointed Second in Command of 208 Field Hospital (V) 2002. Due to his previous experience as OC Clinical 208 Field Hospital and previously as a unit NBC Of cer in 2003 he was selected to be posted into 202 (Birmingham) Field Hospital (V) as OC Clinical Squadron, responsible for all medical, surgical and dental aspects of a deployed 200 bed
eld hospital for the ground war phase of the Iraq war. He returned as Second in Command 208 Field Hospital (V) in which role he deployed to Afghanistan in 2007. As Second in Command he was responsible for taking the unit on EX MARBLE TOR
in Gibraltar which
allowed the unit to
substantially improve
its physical tness,
military skills and
operational movement
in the run up to the unit’s rst deployment to Afghanistan in 2007. Whilst in theatre he was additionally required to bring on the development of the new hard build hospital in Bastion.
Appointed Commanding Of cer 208 Field Hospital in 2007, he successfully deployed the unit to Afghanistan as the
CO of the Role 3 Hospital Regiment, expanding manpower and capacity of the hospital by approximately 26%. Completing his tour of command in January 2013 he
was appointed Chief Umpire, AMSTC. The role of Chief Umpire migrated to Assistant Director Training AMSTC in which he was responsible
for validation of regular and reserve units on their pathway to operational deployment in Afghanistan, validation of the Vanguard Field Hospital and subsequently validation of units preparing to deploy to Sierra Leone prior to their deployment to the Ebola Treatment Facility.
Appointed Honorary Colonel Commandant RADC 2007,
he takes a special interest in reservist dental health, and
in recruitment, training and deployment of the RADC Reserves. Current work-strands in this role are; a new de nition of SOTR for Dental Reserves to improve the offer to reservists by paying for post graduate dental education relevant to their role in the reserves and also of direct utility to their civilian practice and generation of a training cycle which will include clinical validation which will be directly comparable
with regular RADC. This will allow easier deployment of RADC Reserves. Focused on OP FORTIFY the RADC
Reserve has grown
by a third over the past year. In addition he is Lead President of Army Medical Services (Reserves) Professionally Quali ed Of cer (PQO) Selection Boards
Civilian Life
Peter Jackson is the Lead Clinician
of a specialist orthodontic practice in Lancaster. He is married to Anne and lives in Lancashire. He has one daughter who is junior doctor specializing in Emergency Medicine. He has a springer spaniel and shoots clays and game.
He received the Territorial Decoration (TD) in 1998. He was appointed Queen’s Honorary Dental Surgeon in September 2015.
