CHAIRMAN’S REPORT
April already and my penultimate Chairman’s report!
Barry and I attended our
first ever Burns Dinner
courtesy of Raunds Mayor
Sylvia Hughes at the Saxon
Hall in Raunds. A great
evening which began with
the Haggis being piped in
in traditional fashion before
being cut with a sword with a
passage recited from Robbie
Burns poetry. A Scottish
dinner including the Haggis,
neeps and tatties was followed by a Scottish quiz. An entertaining evening of tartan, kilts and tradition.
An invite to the Northamptonshire Amateur Swimming Association County Swimming Championships at Corby International Pool was warmly welcomed, literally! Teams of young people from towns around the County took part in individual and team events and the noise of klaxons and cheering was deafening but fabulous
to hear. As the Chairperson said it was the equivalent of the Olympics for the young people taking part. Thrapston based Nene Valley Swimming Club (NVSC) are the smallest club in the County but performed
well in the individual and team events. The club offers training for a wide range of abilities from ages 5-18 at the Nene Centre Pool. New members are welcome to go along and meet the team for a free trial and volunteers are always needed to help in all areas. To contact NVSC email nvsc-secretary@ hotmail.co.uk
Thrapston Town Band performed a Best of British and Proms night for my charity on Friday 25th
February a report of which you will find in this publication. Under the baton of Musical Director Nathan Waterman a local man who learned to play with the band, the Town Band can trace their origins back to the earliest days of the brass band movement
in 1850’s England when employees from Smith and Grace Iron Foundry formed
a Temperance Brass band. The Band is delighted to have welcomed a number of new experienced players and look forward to an exciting programme of concerts in 2022. Checkout their website or Facebook page for more information.
Kind regards
Councillor Val Carter
