and they showed us around their clinic and briefed us about the services they provide to the BGN patients. It was very satisfying to hear about the good working relationship between them and BGN. After the visit

the camp. This is the same route, known as the famous Doko Run, that the hopeful potential Gurkhas undertake during their central selection process to enlist into the British Army, carrying 25kg of sand in a basket on their back. The selection process is very tough and all the competitors try to complete the route in under 46 minutes.
I, being a former Gurkha, completed this competition about 15 years ago and I can proudly say that this is one of the most challenging competitions that I have ever done. The next day, we said goodbye to Pokhara and flew back to Kathmandu. Once back at Kathmandu we had some admin
to the clinic, we headed to the Gurkha Museum situated next to Pokhara Camp. The museum holds the complete history of the brave Gurkhas. It was very interesting to read the stories of the brave Gurkhas that were recognised with the highest awards and medals for their bravery shown during great battles. In the afternoon we held
the Dental Q&A session for the dentally entitled patients of BGN Pokhara. It was very interesting and
reassuring to receive
feedback in terms of
the dental services
they are receiving at
BGN. The session
ended with me
giving an oral health
education presentation
to the attendees,
including children. The children were very attentive and kept on asking lots of different questions. After this session we went for
a Hill Walk/Run at Bhalam Hill under the direction of my numberi Sgt Nishan Lama QGE who is currently the MT Sgt at British Gurkhas Pokhara. The hill lies just opposite the camp. The hill route is mostly steep, gravelled and bendy all the way to the top with a total distance of approx. 4.6Km
from bottom to top. We had great fun doing a fast march pace to the top and
a run whilst coming down the hill back to
time to catch up with emails back in Brunei.
On our last day, Friday 28th Sep, we had a final meeting with the BGN DPHC Med Cen SMO and PM to discuss our findings and to thank them for continuing
to look after the dental administration of the BGN patients. We also conducted a final Dental Q&A session at Kathmandu camp, with the attendees again giving positive feedback in terms of dental treatment provided by the appointed dental clinics. Without realisation, the time came for us
to say goodbye to Nepal and fly back
to Brunei. After the evening meal at the BGK camp, we loaded our baggage into a BGN vehicle and headed to Kathmandu International Airport to catch our late evening flight via Kula Lumpur back to

Brunei. After 13 hours, including 5 hours of transit time at Kuala Lumpur, we arrived safe and sound in Brunei late Saturday afternoon. This concluded our Dental Intelligence Visit to BGN Nepal.
In summary, the visit went well and to plan. We managed to achieve all our aims and objectives. Even though the visit was only for a few days, besides work and duties, we still managed to explore and enjoy Nepal. The beautiful landscapes of Pokhara seen from the Sarangkot View Point and the hill walk at Bhalam Hill will remain in my memory for a long time. The visit provided us with valuable experience and knowledge for conducting health intelligence visits in the future. Finally, we are very grateful and thankful to all the BGN staff for providing the support which enabled us to conduct our visit successfully.
