AMS Hockey
Maj Kate Porter RADC
After an 11-year break from playing hockey, I dusted off the shin pads
and stick and started playing for the AMS Ladies Hockey Team. It has been a great year, and I have thoroughly enjoyed getting back out on the pitch playing with a group of motivated and driven women.
After being out for so long the rules in hockey have completely changed and it took me a while to get my head around them. Everyone was very understanding and supportive which made all the difference.
During the season we have struggled to field a squad of 11, on one occasion we had 8 players compared to the opposition who had 11. With great leadership, skill and a team spirit we managed to win
3-2. Needless to say, I couldn’t walk for 3 days afterwards!!!
The end of year finished with the inter corps championships. The AMS got through to the final, beating everyone in their path. Over the past 4 years the AMS have met the AGC in the finals and this year was no different, it was all to play for. When the final whistle was blown it was 2-2 and the AGC had just won a penalty corner (the final play of the match) and scored. It was a disappointing loss but everyone had put in
100%. I am looking forward to next year’s season kicking off in September. If anyone in the RADC fancies representing the AMS next year at hockey, please get in touch - we
are always looking for complete beginners to experienced hockey players.
