accommodated at Sandhurst. How I rue those words – for I set in motion a very long and painful rollercoaster (below is the short version)!
However, I made the suggestion due to the prec- edent of memorials previously relocated from Woolwich to Sandhurst; not only the chapel memorials and furniture, but also the statues of the Prince Imperial and Queen Victoria, the Kurnool mortar, silverware, artwork and various honours boards – most notably those of Distin- guished Artillery and Engineer of cers. These had come from the small octagonal tower rooms in the old RMA library itself.
In addition to this precedent, on closer inspec- tion, a large proportion of the RMA book stock is in the Sandhurst library. These bear bookplates with the original letter corresponding to the let- ters at the top of bookcases. The opportunity, therefore, existed to reunite the cases with their original contents.
