Training
Following a time-honoured tradition, Ex PROUD BUGLE, was the rst major event of the New Year and saw the Ri emen compete for individual and Fire Team rankings in our annual military skills competition, covering the following events: Check Zero
Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear
Fire Team Attack
Counter-Explosive Ordnance/Battle eld Casualty Drills
Artillery Target Indication
Night Navigation
2-Mile March and Shoot
Rfn Highley (D Platoon) won Best Ri eman, whilst D Platoon also provided the best Fire Team.
The Training Year so far has focussed on Live Firing progression with Individual and Personal Weapons and we aspire to conduct Section-level live attacks by the end of the Training Year.
Personnel from the company supported 3rd (United Kingdom) Division in achieving CTO 6 on Ex SPECULAR in Sennelager from 14-27 Jan 17, where 5 RIFLES were also exercising as part of the 20th Armoured Infantry Brigade CTO 5 effort. The majority of our external efforts have gone to supporting Sandhurst’s devolved Module B training for Reserve Of cer Cadets in the north east of England, where we have provided exercising troops, Directing Staff, as well as logistics and communications support.
A section strength contingent from the company supported 7 SCOTS Annual Training Package in Benbecula in April. For some of the younger Ri emen, this was their rst time working with another unit, but they were all made to feel very welcome by their hosts. During their time in the Outer Hebrides, they practised their low-level tactics, shooting, and signals, whilst some of them took the opportunity to attend a General Purpose Machine Gun cadre.

Sports and Adventure Training
The company continues to support 5 RRF’s orien- teering team, with WO2 Thompson (B Platoon), CSjt Richardson (Company Headquarters), and Rfn Hewitt (D Platoon) recently competing at Army level.
LCpl Birchley (Y Platoon) has competed in several ice hockey tournaments this year and was part of the Infantry team who won the Army’s Whittaker Cup, consequently being selected for the Army team.
Rfn Robinson (Mortar Platoon) remains in contention to take a place in the Army’s cyclo- cross team again.
Our CQMS, CSjt Richardson, organised the company adventure training package in the Lake District over the period 14-16 Jul 17. Thirty Ri emen took part in hill walking, gorge walking, gorge jumping, and caving before attending a delicious barbecue prepared by Sgt Johnson (Company Headquarters) and Cpl Gurung (Company Headquarters). The Ri emen have also had a second opportunity for adventure training in the Lake District this summer, organised by 5 RRF, where the Ri emen took part in hill walking, rock climbing, scrambling, and canoeing.
