Community Support Update
Over the summer, the Community Support Team ran some free events for adults, including cocktail making, a pop art class, and cheese and wine tasting. All of these were a great success and we are looking forward to running more adult events in the coming months, so if you have any suggestions, do please get in touch with us – all ideas welcomed.
The cheese and wine tasting was hosted by Major Rob Hill and Major Howard Alcock, and 25 people got to try 6 different wines and 6 different cheeses – some of which were more popular than others! The pop art class was led by a visiting art teacher and although most people claimed not to be artistic everyone created brilliant paintings and went home happy. The cocktail/mocktail making lesson was highly amusing, with some getting to grips with Fuzzy Duck faster than others! Each person had the opportunity to make
(and drink!) 4 different cocktails and a merry time was had by all. Sadly, the Community Support Team discovered the next day that it is in fact possible to get a stonking hangover from non alcoholic gin!
As well as the adult events, we ran 4 free children’s craft sessions which were well attended by families. These events were biscuit decorating with Amber’s Bakes and Cakes, tie dye t shirts, clay modelling/ decorating and for the older children a pop art lesson. These were lovely, sociable events for a wide variety of ages and all of the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
Since the start of September we have opened the Community Centre as a lunch break area from 1200-1330hrs Mon-Fri. All are welcome to bring your own lunch and eat it on our comfy sofas. Free tea and coffee is provided, with thanks to the Station Commander.
We’d like to take this opportunity to say a fond farewell to our Community Development Officer, Siggy Hillman, who leaves us in October when she retires. We wish her a long and happy retirement, spent following her favourite football team and walking her 3 Springer Spaniels – Molly, Poppy and Sapper.
