Dog Walking area

A suitable dog exercise area has long been planned for RAF Wyton station. With materials acquired and a suitable site selected it was due to various unfortunate circumstances the project had been side-lined for a couple of years. With station dog policy prohibiting dogs being off leads, having a suitable dog exercise area would provide a fantastic opportunity for our four-legged friends. That opportunity would arise from a brief encounter between Sgt Smith and the Station Warrant Officer who had discovered Sgt Smith with his dog Tilly off the lead, contrary to station policy. Sun Tzu, the Chinese military general and philosopher said, “Victory comes from finding opportunities in problems” and this problem found the opportunity for Sgt Smith to finally see this project completed.
With a team assembled of members from both 14 Geo Sqn and 16 Geo Sp Sqn construction of the fence began work in June. The team worked well to fix several fenceposts with the postcrete provided. No sooner had the work begun the project encountered another
lengthy pause as available personnel headed out to support various summer exercises. Upon return from summer leave work continued again and over the course of two days in August we saw the remaining fence posts and fence panels erected. The station dog exercise area nears completion and will be an asset to dog owners for years to come. Aspirations for agility equipment will further enhance this space and bring a fantastic facility to both our four-legged friends and their owners. The dog exercise area is located behind the Costcutter shop opposite the station Polytunnel.
