Back fundraising Rotary Club continue to Zoom meet
Our local Rotary Club is still meeting weekly on Zoom, since we are still not allowed to meet as a group. The club continues to be active by supporting our local foodbanks, having interesting speakers and we are now starting to fundraise again.
We need to raise funds to support the charities that we help. We are now planning a fundraising quiz, which will take place in November on Zoom. Watch out for publicity for this fun event, on the club Facebook page and elsewhere, since the arrangements had not been finalised at the time of writing.
One piece of good news is the way that the Thrapston Shoe Box appeal is helping others by filling Rotary Shoe Boxes. Well done to all those involved! Details can be found at www.facebook.com/Thrapston- Shoebox-Appeal-904769359550640/
Many readers will know that Rotary worldwide has supported and raised many millions of pounds for the global campaign to end Polio. Margaret Morley, who used to live
locally, recently gave a talk which updated members about the disease and the ways Rotary has worked to eradicate it. Whilst
the good news is that Africa was declared wild polio-free in August, the bad news is that there have been more cases elsewhere. She reminded us that, although polio has been eradicated in the UK, there are still about 120,000 survivors in Britain, and about the devastating effects of the disease. World Polio Day, on October 24th, will have happened before the publication of this magazine but, despite the attention rightly being given to Covid-19, we need to keep working to eradicate polio since so much has been achieved, and global eradication is within reach if we keep up the effort.
We are always interested in hearing from people who want to support our work
or become members. Further details of Thrapston and Raunds Rotary Club can be found on Facebook.
THRAPSTON TOWN
LADIES FOOTBALL CLUB
Thanks to everyone who sponsored Thrapston Town Ladies Football Club in their Lands End/John O’Groats challenge. Between them they covered well over twice the distance and, in all, over £800 was raised for the three causes.
Thrapston Ladies FC play at the sixth tier of women’s football nationally and are five promotions away from the Women’s Super League – not bad for a small town like Thrapston. They play their home games on Sunday afternoon at the field
in Chancery Lane. In November they are home to Oadby Ladies on 1st and on 22nd to Beaumont Park (Leicester), both kicking off at 2.00pm. Entrance is free. Why not come down and cheer them on.
