‘If you don’t mind, gentlemen,’ began Sadie sweetly. ‘I think we’ll take care of the doll. Can you take it to Fay Fox’s workshop?’
The animals gazed at each other. Charlie nodded and waited until they had left before saying:
‘Do they realise how difficult it was to bring it here? We dragged that thing from the garden, in the dead of night, and now we have to move it again. Alfie, can you fetch the cart and a blanket? We’ll have to bend it so that it fits inside and take its head off if we have to,’ he moaned. ‘I don’t want anyone to see us carrying it.’
