The next day, Daisy was keen to see the mink and took her daughters to play at her mum’s house: Lincoln would collect them after work. Knowing that a Wisdom meeting was imminent Daisy needed to gather as much information as she could about the mink. She started out on the only woodland trail that now led to the enchanted garden and the fairy kingdom, where Sophia was safe in her residence and was guarded by either Edward Badger or his brother, Tom. Daisy waved to Tom as she passed by. Today, the silence in Barns Wood felt unnatural. If the woodland animals had suspected anything they were sensible enough not to discuss it or to make a fuss.
She walked along a narrow track and reached a clearing that she didn’t recognise, so she entered with caution. On the far side, Otter and Charlie were blocking access into the clearing with branches and logs.
