EAGLE AND CARBINE 47 THE OFFICERS’ MESS
Major Dez O’Connor
After some well-earned rest January marked the start of what looked to be a very busy year for the officers’ mess. As always, mess life continued to flurry with the usual mix of planned events and, of course, the unofficial shenanigans, although not as many as we would have liked due to the commitments.
Burns night, as always, was the first event to take place and as per normal it would give the chance for the Mess to integrate with the rest of the station on this annual event. Mainly organised by 2nd Battalion REME due to us being on CAST it was, as always, a good night with the usual poems and reminder of a great Scottish artist at work.
In March there was an Officers vs WOs & Sgts’ mess games night. With the games list of pool, darts and FIFA 22 we all knew that this was not going to be a victorious evening - pub sport is not our forte. It was a great night with lots of fun and the usual banter being thrown around. As is normal the hosts where victorious so congratulations to them for this year there will always be next year for revenge. March marked the departure of Capt Alex Dzwig who is now employed in the civilian sector, we wish him all the best.
May saw the deployment of the B Squadron officers on Operation NEWCOMBE ROTO 4, as they deployed away with the Royal Irish. They would not return
