Are you sure this doesn’t look staged Cpl Learman?
Lt Jefferis taking the Sqn through the fine art of obstacle crossings
and the focus shifted towards ensuring that the troops were ready to deploy to Castlemartin for a regimental firing period in early November. Two weeks in notori- ously sunny Pembrokeshire saw the Sqn progress through the necessary mounted and dismounted live firing to meet the start state for Wessex Storm. There was qual- ity shooting throughout, with the overall best crew being presented to Cpl Julien’s 12C C/S. Best HMG gunner went to LCpl Walker, newly transferred from the RDG, whilst best GMG gunner was awarded to Tpr ‘Aussie’ Greenhalgh. Excellent men-
toring by Sgts Monaher, Roos and Abbott meant that all crews achieved LFX 8A by the end of the firing period.
The return to Gaza post ranges saw an influx of vehicles to bolster the Sqn BUF, enabling more driver training and BCS to be conducted. It also saw the culmination of The Princess of Wales Cup sports compe- tition; where despite a valiant effort in all disciplines, A Sqn did not hold the trophy high at the end of the competition! A num- ber of individuals from the Sqn departed to represent The Light Dragoons on both
Nordic and Alpine skiing, only just evad- ing new COVID restrictions to make it to Norway and Verbier respectively. After a long and eventful year, the remainder of The Empire departed on Christmas leave physically, conceptually and morally pre- pared for validation on Wessex Storm in the New Year.
