of, ‘Show him your jab!’ and ‘double it up!’, before raising his arm in triumph. Cpl Atkinson is not alone in sporting prowess, with Tpr Dunn representing the RAC in football and Lt Elkington and LCpl Fox at rugby. The return of Cpls Bowden and Webster from Crew Commanders has re- ignited the dying flame of the squadron’s cricket and fishing activities and we are now to all intents and purposes a ‘sporting squadron’. Our 3rd place in the Princess of Wales cup is a mere building block for what will undoubtedly be a marvellous 2022.
Having ticked off its training objectives for the year, B Squadron made its merry way back up North to the tune of Blaydon races and settled into the remaining month’s work before Christmas leave. This largely involved catching up on the continually worsening ‘G4 war’ which Ex Wessex Storm had begun to create which, although tedious, gave purpose to the weeks’ activi- ties. Lt McDonald inspired all in this period with his stunning inter-squadron cross country victory. Finishing minutes ahead of his beleaguered adversaries in his trademark ‘chin-back arms-low’ running style. He leaves Eric Liddell with much to be desired.
The Guards continue to add quality to their ranks, with LCpl Wilkinson recently completing Sniper commanders and Cpl Du Plessis returning from Mali with a General Service West Africa medal for his CH47 force protection work. Cpl Atkinson
finished top of Crew Commanders in the early part of the year. The Guards can con- tinue to delegate more and more responsi- bility to a wider section of the squadron.
B Squadron now looks forward to its most exciting period in recent history. Gone are the months of disarray caused by wider- regimental deployments. B Squadron now has the nearing heights of deployments to Oman, PDT and operational tours on its horizon. With basic skills now mastered and morale high, the Squadron can expect every success.
