Army Angling Federation Coarse Fishing
Whilst it has been a horrible time for sport in general. fishing has seen a huge increase of people taking up the sport, both in the army and out. Three of our attached arms took up the sport in 2021 and have enjoyed the benefits and made huge improvements within a very short space of time.
A hectic schedule post lockdown saw Sgt Rowson and Cpl Hodson have an excel- lent few month’s putting in strong per- formances on an individual level within Group 5 Army Angling Federation (AAF) Coarse. Cpl Hodson finished 3rd individu- ally over 10 matches and Sgt Rowson’s team, The Muggers, won the team tro- phy. These performances in turn got them noticed by the Army Angling Federation team. They were selected for the squad for the 2021/22 season and to represent the Army in the Division One National and the Interservices Competition.
In September, the annual AAF Coarse championships was held at Woodlands Lakes in Thirsk. Three soldiers repre- sented the Regiment; Sgt Rowson, Cpl Hodson and LCpl Day (REME). Cpl Hodson finished 3rd individually in the army individual trophy and Sgt Rowson and LCpl Day 11th and 19th respectively. The teams of five event was won by Sgt Rowson and Cpl Hodson’s team. After five days of very hotly contested fishing Cpl Hodson finished 9th Sgt Rowson 11th and LCpl day 52nd out 91 anglers from across the army.
With the 2022 season already underway, we have seen the return of Sgt Beevers (REME) for his second posting with the Regiment and the departure of LCpl Day.
The selection for the AAF Coarse was done early 2022/23 season and I’m pleased to announce we now have three anglers representing the Regiment at the highest level. Congratulations to Sgt Rowson, Sgt Beevers (REME) and Cpl Hodson.
Sgt Rowson after a successful day
A successful LDs team
Overall, it has been a very successful 2021/22 season for our anglers. We hope to
