2022 proved to be a busy year for the Training Wing with plenty of transition following the Regiments return from Op NEWCOMBE. WO2s Ruddy, Davies, Griffiths and Navunisaravi all occupied positions in the Training Wing with Mr Navunisaravi the incumbent Training Wing Warrant Officer (TWWO). He is soon to be replaced and so the curse of the TWWO continues! To those that have worked in the Training Wing this year, the Regiment thanks you for your hard work and for the quality of job that you did.
In truth, the Training Wing were happy to see the end of QDG deployments on Operation NEWCOMBE. It is no mean feat for a Regiment to meet the training start states for such an all-encompassing deployment. Soldiers of the Training Wing worked tirelessly to organise and coordinate the courses and training for Mali (and were happy to do so). It was made worthwhile when reports returned to the Regiment of soldiers acting with endeavour and professionalism to perform well on-course.
In a post-NEWCOMBE and post-in- vasion-of-Ukraine setting the Training Wing set their sights on new tasks and new objectives. Activity remained largely centred around Sqn groups and high-quality training was delivered in innovative settings. Capt Groome and SSgt Hazelwood planned and delivered Urban Warfare training for C Sqn at Corsham Mines, a complex mine system close to Salisbury Plain. Concurrently, individuals from the Regiment were supporting and delivering high quality Jackal vehicle training in an overseas location to SFSG (Special Forces Support Group).
Ex EAGLES RETURN saw members of the Training Wing drive JACKALs and
COYOTE to far flung,
remote and backward
areas of the UK (Wales). SSgt Hazelwood is proud of the 1800+ miles covered in the vehicles with not one single vehicle “lost”. Whether this relates to navigation or vehicle reliability, we’ll never know.
Most recently the Training Wing acted as the key enablers for Ex MULLENS CUP. It was a real team effort with Capt Groome planning the training aided by Sgt Williams and WO2 Navunisaravi, SSgt Hazelwood, Cpl Cope and LCpl Lewis facilitating the training. MULLENS CUP 22 proved to be a real success. With not many teams able to enter (due to the high volume of Regimental activity), the competition was still able to prove the
concept of delivering physically and mentally demanding training from Robertson Barracks. PT style runs preceded tests of basic soldiering and culminated in pistol shoots on our ‘in-house’ 25m Range, the winners being Sgt Howell’s team from A
Sqn.
We now look forward to yet another
busy year in 2023. The Training Wing team remain on hand to assist the Regiment with their plethora of tasks and relish the challenge of ensuring indi- viduals, and the organisation writ large, continue to be ready for whatever is thrown their way.
