Happy 20th birthday to Step N Grooves time to celebrate!
Step N Grooves Dance School, Thrapston, celebrates a huge birthday this coming September. 2020 marks 20 hugely successful years for this unique Freestyle
& Street Dance School that started off as a small fun group run by a 14-year-old dance enthusiast and teenage entrepreneur.
Mrs Steph Newman, F.N.A.T.D, built the school steadily over the proceeding years. She holds the highest possible Fellowship Freestyle dance teaching qualification that enables her to train dance teachers. She also recently completed her Level 4 Dance Teaching Diploma to serve as another recognised level of teaching excellency for the school. Two of her extremely talented pupils, Katie March and Frances Talman (who both started with Step N Grooves over 15 years ago), have also taken teacher exams and now teach their own successful Step N Grooves classes too.
Steph always wanted the school to be different. Having experienced first hand all the forceful attitudes that accompany certain
dance environments, she felt there was a market to dance for pure enjoyment, to build confidence, to master key dance skills and create friendships. The school thrived. Step N Grooves currently runs 16 regular Street and Freestyle classes a week for ages 4 to adult, 12 here in Thrapston, 3 in Stanion and 1 in Oundle. They have a regular 215 pupils attend classes each week.
Pupils are able to take regular N.A.T.D dance examinations and participate in the school’s huge annual end of year show weekend, but these are not compulsory. The school regularly holds workshops and dance parties.
Another avenue Steph is looking to soon explore is using dance to help overcome anxieties, low self-belief and depression. She is currently studying a counselling for adolescents’ course to aid this path.
