‘Is it him, Mrs Henderson?’ asked Olivia anxiously staring down.
A shiver raced down Alice’s spine, her hair stood on end and a lump came to her throat. ‘It’s him. No doubt whatsoever.’
‘I’d love to go down to demand what he wants. Hang on, he’s going!’ cried Cara.
Sophie was in her element as she stood up. ‘You two have to go home soon and I don’t expect you to come with me, Mrs Henderson. I’m going to follow him and I’ll ring you both when I find out where he goes. Cara! Don’t panic. I won’t say anything.’
With that, she hurried from the bar, hair flying, and charged down the escalator to run after the boy.
‘Drink up, girls, if you want to catch your bus,’ said Alice. ‘Whatever Olivia tells you, Cara, keep it to yourself and then tell her to ring me. Promise?’
Cara and Olivia nodded. ‘Thank you, Grandma. Will you be all right?’
‘Of course, I will. I’ve used the bus today, so I’ll come with you to the terminal.’

Alice thanked Sophie and replaced her mobile in her cardigan pocket to wait for some photographs. She went back to her armchair to finish her tea and mulled over their interesting conversation. Hearing a ping she took out the phone to view the photos Sophie had sent. Alice didn’t react to shocks or unpleasant surprises, but these pictures were going to shock someone, namely her daughter,
Emily.
