‘Settle down, settle down,’ called Mrs Gosling. ‘I am taking registration this morning. Afterwards, I want you to read your books.’ The students observed each other’s reactions, wondering what had happened. Miss Kilroy was never late and her absence intrigued the class after Mrs Gosling left the room saying she’d be back in ten minutes. Olivia nudged Cara. ‘What if your parents have come in to make a complaint?’
Cara stared at her friend in surprise. ‘No, I’m sure they’d have told me if they were coming in for a meeting.’
The classroom door flew open and Lewis Palmer barged into the room. ‘The cops have got Killjoy!’
