‘Whatever for? She doesn’t have dementia,’ exclaimed Louisa.
‘It’s a safe place for her right now. You’ll be able to see her soon and sort out future accommodation. Meanwhile, we’d like to know if she has ever assisted you with any school work you might have taken home recently?’ said the male officer.
‘Melanie!’ grimaced Louisa. ‘Gracious me, no! Why do you ask?’
‘Has she ever enquired about your students or asked you to obtain information about them?’ inquired the female officer.
‘Never!’ said Louisa, wondering where their line of questioning was leading.
The male officer took a yellow piece of paper from his briefcase. ‘Can you explain how and why we found this in her belongings?’
The officer showed Louisa a yellow Post-it bearing Cara Maitland’s hand-written home address. Louisa raised and shook her head as Mr Forrester lowered his eyes.
‘Are you sure, Miss Kilroy?’ pleaded Mr Forrester. ‘That is Cara’s writing and this is a serious matter. The school cannot allow any breach of a student’s data.’
Louisa felt nervous. ‘I don’t know where she got it from. Perhaps she found it in the town, or somewhere,’ she said.
