suggest we stay over with Elise in the coastguard’s old cottage. There’s not enough room to swing a cat in there. It’s so tiny,’ laughed Cara. ‘Are we going to Grandma’s on Sunday?’
‘Yes, as far as I know,’ replied Kay.
‘Mum ... has this new arrangement got anything to do with the boy and Elise?’
Kay slumped in a chair recalling her mum’s suspicions. The adults had agreed not to reveal their fears. ‘Yes, it has. When Uncle Steve first telephoned me about the boy, your dad and I thought we should be careful. We haven’t a clue who he is and we don’t want to scare Elise or your Auntie Emily until the police have found and identified him. We don’t think it was a coincidence for him to be outside Annetta’s and the school in such a short amount of time.’
‘But nothing has happened lately and the police can’t find him. Uncle Steve confirmed he was on every CCTV camera, wandering around for hours. Then he disappears into thin air, whoosh! At least while we’re there we won’t be asked to do any homework.’
When Cara went to bed, Kay pestered her husband for an update, camera movements and police progress.
‘Steve reported the incidents to the desk sergeant at the police station and although nothing has happened, he still completed a report sheet and requested a CCTV camera check of the town centre.
‘The last time we spoke he told me the footage recording the boy’s movements had been logged and mapped. The only time he was caught on camera outside
