Steve and Liam laughed. The woman returned, shaking her head. ‘He should have retired years ago; I hope he got his days right. Here, take the current SD card and I’ll put another one in.’
‘Thank you,’ said Liam as they left the shop. ‘Back to the office, Steve?’
‘Oh, yes. As quick as you can, mate. I’m off for the rest of the week. We’re taking the kids for a holiday to Cornwall in the morning and Emily and I are hoping to have some time for ourselves. My mum and dad haven’t seen Freddie since he was two months old and they’ll spoil Elise something rotten.’

Cara’s mum worked part-time at a medical centre. She’d been asked to do extra hours on Tuesday and Wednesday this week but had promised to make up time later on with her daughter. Alice had arranged a surprise for Cara. At eight-thirty on Tuesday morning, she arrived to collect Cara and take her back to the bungalow. A taxi was booked to take them to the train station. Both had always wanted to see a particular London musical and today Alice had a treat in store for her granddaughter. An overnight stay in a London hotel would be a dream come true for
her.
‘Mum told me to pack a nice outfit. Are we going
shopping, Grandma?’
