newsletter became the norm because we had so much news to share. Bill retired and volunteered his time to help us produce a lot of our promotional work and we set him up in a corner of our office that we acquired in 2006. He loved it and he soon became a valued member of the team, even coming along to our annual walks with his camera to take a huge variety of photographs. He was a very patient, shy man and quickly got used to knowing how we wanted our newsletters to look and how many photos we needed in them – just like this book! Before we closed the office, Bill very kindly spent a lot of time working with me to map out the kind of book I wanted, and we made much progress on the first few chapters. However, when Covid intervened and we weren’t able to work at the office, everything was put on hold and, of course, in that time we made the decision to close the charity so Bill and I no longer had the opportunity to work alongside each other. Furthermore, when I eventually got round to continuing with the book, the software he had used was, frustratingly, no longer compatible with new software that was being used by printing and publishing firms. I therefore had to look around to find help from elsewhere – and this is now
where we are, thanks to ‘Jayne’ and ‘Caroline’, with Bill able to help me with the scanning of photographs – and with over 33,000 on my computer, it was a nightmare choosing the most appropriate ones that helped to illustrate my story.
Over the period of time as a registered charity we had three different websites designed before we got it right; we joined Facebook, and the
