Your family gave you a lovely funeral – they did you proud – you would have been so pleased. It was packed, as we thought it would be and ‘Sue’ – remember Sue, Lay Minister from Ringstead Church, when we used to go to Megan and Jenson’s Church services? Sue beautifully conducted your service and was, absolutely, the right person to do this – she knew you and your family well. You were a much-loved person you know – the hundreds of tributes received reflected that. Selfishly, I was dreading reading my Tribute to you and felt physically sick right up to the point where I had to – I was so nervous. The photo of you in your best pink suit, happily smiling, taken when we went to Buckingham Palace and placed on your coffin, gave me the strength. I could hear you saying, “Come on Glennis, you can do this!” – just as I heard Mum ‘speaking’ to me when I read at her funeral – and at Dad’s.

We all wore robins – a robin pin badge, lovingly thought of by Paul and your girls. You loved to watch robins, and other birds, feed from your feeders outside your lounge window... you know the saying... ‘when a robin appears, a loved one is near’... We all ‘sang up’ too – a
firm request from you!
So now, you have been reunited
with John, your husband and you are at rest. I will still bring you yellow roses – something I did for years – yellow roses for friendship.
Thank you Marilyn. Thank you for being such a huge part of my life for twenty nine years; thank you for our perfect, if not a ‘crazy’ friendship which all started at that ‘meant-to-be’ moment when we headed off to France together late one Friday afternoon...
I’m trying hard to adapt to a new normal but I know life won’t ever be the same without you. I’ll be OK though. I talk about you a lot – always will!
Writing this letter has helped but I will always miss you.
few minutes! We had to make a hasty retreat and run back into the chapel, sitting in the same seats, that were still warm! It was the same Funeral Directors overseeing this funeral ... the service had just started when ‘Jonathon’ tapped me on the shoulder and asked us if we were doing anything later as the following funeral needed ‘mourners’! We dare not laugh! Do you remember too, that every time we sang ‘Abide With Me’ we always used to point our finger to the sky when the words – “Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies” were sung. We sang this at your funeral Marilyn and yes, I pointed to the skies.
