RAPTC rowing has continued to grow both on and off the water making this an extremely successful rst season for this new and exciting sport within the Corps.
In total, 14 RAPTCIs have all passed the Army Rowing Club Learn to Row course and took to the water competing at both military and civilian events.
The team have been representing civilian clubs at various events throughout the winter season, and as the RAPTC at the Abingdon Head of River, and for the rst time in recorded history at the Joint Service Regatta against far more experienced rowers. The team entered as a coxed four ( nding ourselves racing the RAF) and in the single and double novice categories, proving to be a team to watch for the future.
The RAPTC has also been recognised as a rapidly developing club within the Army, with Capt (MAA) S Jackson RAPTC awarded with the Army Rowing Club player of the year for outstanding contribution to rowing in the Army. As this article is written the team are preparing for both the Army and Joint Service 2017 regattas.
With indoor rowing we have seen RAPTCIs take home 7 gold, 5 silver and 6 bronze medals at various events, including the Aldershot 6000m and Army, Midlands, Devon, Welsh and European Indoor Rowing Championships. Members of the team (WO2 Scott Pollock, SSgt Kev Bell and SSgt Brett Steels) even found time to break world records as part of civilian indoor rowing teams!
For any RAPTCI wishing to try a new sport and join the RAPTC rowing team please contact the team captain: WO2 (QMSI) Southern-Naylor.
