Physical development has witnessed significant change over the last twelve months, mainly due to the implementation of programme THOR, PT alignment to UKSCA, the
introduction of Physical Employment Standard (PES) and the Soldier Conditioning Review (SCR). All of which, has created a significant change to the content and practical application for the Regular and Reserve PTI courses. Detailed updates are as follows:
RAPTC Instructors Course
The RAPTC Instructors Course format and content changed considerably in Apr 18 incorporating a variety of training to achieve a separate aim within each term. The purpose of the junior term is to remind and upskill students in relation to foundational movement patterns, components of fitness in accordance with APTS, anatomy and exercise physiology. The intermediate term is targeted towards educating students with sport and officiating to assist them with the delivery of the command appointments for the AAPTI course. Throughout the senior term students are provided with essential management tools to support their future within the RAPTC. Students are assessed throughout the course using a series of methods such as theory exams, instructional practices, command appointments and verbal reasoning assessments.
Subsequently, as training is continually evolving, updates to the course content have already been applied. Recent implementation of the PES and the SCR promptly modified this new course content. This incorporated two full days within the intermediate term, each day was dedicated to both theory and practical elements of Role Fitness Test (RFT (S)) and SCR. The assurance of understanding is assessed through both command appointments and the delivery of instructional practices.
AAPTI Course
The AAPTI course continues to operate from an academic framework including UKSCA material and the Essentials of Strength and Conditioning fourth edition. CDC continues to extract key information from these sources and has placed it into content using Blooms taxonomy. As of Oct 18 RFT (S) and SCR have featured within the AAPTI course, this was mainly for HQ RAPTC to data collect however, it provided great exposure and training for the AAPTI course prior to the role out in Apr 19. With an increase in intensity and updated methods of developing the tactical athlete, it was decided via Internal validation that it would be appropriate to extend the AAPTI course from 8 to 9 weeks training, this change took effect from Jan 2019.
