opportunity to experience working within the eld environment as an ERI and highly recommends it to fellow colleagues within the Cadre looking for a fresh challenge.
Elsewhere in the region, PCRF Aldershot has seen its Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR) rising to over 5000 soldiers with the arrival of 1st Bn Scots Gds and 4 Ri es to the area and the departure of 1st Bn Irish Gds. Other moves within the Garrison include 4 Med Regt to Keogh Bks though remaining under PCRF Aldershot’s PAR. To accommodate this increase, the PCRF programme has been revamped including more individual sessions spread throughout the day in what is an already hectic daily schedule. Sgt (SI) Stu Hawkins in conjunction with 11X Bde and RRU Aldershot coordinated and delivered an AAPTI Study Day in Sept 15 as part of the drive to familiarise AAPTIs with subjects such as the patient injury pathway and medical grades with the PD element being delivered by SO3 PD 11X Bde. The opportunity was also utilised to implement a coaching session on the Big 5 exercises rolled out earlier that year; a second study day is in the pipeline. Sgt Hawkins also deployed as part of a FMRT to the British Army Training Unit Kenya (BATUK) on Ex ASKARI STORM 5 & 6 during Oct – Dec 15. The deployment saw Sgt Hawkins deploy in support of 3 PARA & 2 MERCIAN Regts including BATUK permanent staff during the 6 week arduous training exercises. Sgt Hawkins also concurs that this opportunity gave him the chance to enhance his skills within the deployed environment and would also recommend to fellow ERIs.
PCRF Abingdon’s PAR of 1500 personnel comprises of two RLC Regiments; 3 CLSR & 4 Regt, both situated within Dalton Bks along with 11 EOD at Didcot as well as elements from Bicester.
Although the staff experienced an internal move in recent times regarding location, which has improved the working logistics for both Sgt (SI) Rhyds Slade-Jones and the Physio team, they are approaching yet another relocation of the entire department to a new Hangar within Dalton Bks. This new facility is signi cantly bigger and will provide the opportunity for the Physio and ERI to be co-located working alongside each other in what will be a designated rehabilitation facility - Exciting project and times ahead for PCRF Abingdon. Sgt Slade Jones has also been on deployment (albeit locally) to the more adventurous Salisbury Plain in support of 4 Med Regt on Ex IRON VIPER in Nov 15. He was part of the MRS set up along with Maj ‘Jenks’ Jenkins in control of the physiotherapy department. And although it wasn’t quite BATUS/BATUK, and reduced involvement as part of a FMRT, he did learn new skills as part of the ever busy trauma team!
The RMAS PCRF team has experienced another challenging, yet successful year in 2015. In consistently aiming to enhance the standard of rehabilitation offered to both Of cer Cadets and Permanent Staff alike, they’ve also seen the introduction of new equipment being made available to those receiving exercise rehabilitation treatment. Apart from his ERI role, Sgt Gaz Maré has returned from successfully completing the All Arms Commando Course, whilst SSgt Greg Dove is preparing to attend the All Arms Pre Parachute Selection in readiness for posting in Jun 16. Despite the hectic schedule, the strength and conditioning knowledge of the ERI staff is current and constantly developing, via numerous S&C workshops and courses completed in the past year. Although there has been an enlistment reduction on the commissioning course (CC), the past year has seen a steady ow of Of cer Cadets requiring exercise rehabilitation treatment at RMAS PCRF. With the CC PT syllabus returning to basics and ensuring Of cer Cadets are coached and provided with adequate knowledge in the importance of correct movement patterns in multiple planes and axes. Through an adjustment of the training program and as a result of this approach, it is evident that there is a marked improvement in the form of both Of cer Cadets and permanent staff when completing resisted compound movements.
RMAS PCRF is now looking to expand on the S&C developments made in the past year. This focus is expected to reduce the likelihood of overuse injuries, increase the awareness and importance of S&C, and enhance the functional ability of those future and current leaders receiving exercise rehabilitation treatment.
PCRF Pirbright’s main focus is to support ATC (P) and ARTD by delivering effective exercise rehabilitation to the Phase One Recruits of ATC (P). The PCRF also provides exercise rehabilitation to the permanent staff (PS) of ATC (P), DMRC Headley Court and the cohort of the 1st Battalion the Welsh Guards.
