Another year passes by and a ‘few more’ sports associated aches and pains come to the surface. That time seems to have come around quicker than anticipated, comments like; “wait until you reach over 40 years old” and “all them years of running will catch up with you in later life” have become true, however, given the chance, I would do it all again. Fortunately, my determination and perseverance to improve with the road cycling has recently paid off within 2015:
Army Road Race Championships
Inter Services Road Race Championships
1st Individual Veteran Champion
1st Team (Army)
Army Road Race Championships
1st Minor Unit Team (HQ RC)
Inter Services Road Race Championships
1st Individual Veteran Champion
HEADQUARTERS 1ST (UNITED KINGDOM) DIVISION
“THE ADAPTABLE FORCE”
Maj (MAA) L C Neville RAPTC – SO2 G7 PD
At the time of writing these notes I am fast approaching the “12 months in post” milestone. First though a very brief history of the Division.
Originally formed as a “Mobile Division” in 1937 it saw extensive service during the Second World War. During the Cold War it became the UK element of the Army of the Rhine, in effect a ‘speed bump’ that would slow a Soviet Invasion, being made up of 2 x Armoured Brigades, 4X and 7X. She Commanded UK forces in
the rst Gulf War (Op GRANBY), Kosovo and the re-invasion of Iraq in 2003 (Op TELIC).
The nancial downturn of 2008 combined with SDSR resulted in the Army 2020 Force laydown and the Division being re-shaped to become light role, an adaptive force with multiple functions and outputs. In the summer of 2014 we were re-named 1st (United Kingdom) Division. The main focus of the Division now being Persistent Engagement and Expeditionary Operations.
