The person or animal infected with the virus is
called the host. The particulars of reproduction and
virus infection often differ drastically from one host to
another, based on the host type.
What we know is all viruses have in common, six (6)
basic steps in their reproduction cycles. These six basic
steps are: 1) attachment; 2) penetration; 3) uncoating; 4)
reproduction; 5) assemblage; 6)release.
1. First, the virus must attach itself to the host cell.
2. Next, penetration of either the contents of the capsid
only, or of the whole virus happens.
3. In the case of full capsid entry, uncoating of the genetic
material takes place to make it accessible by the cell's
reproduction system.
4. Genetic material reproduction and capsid and tail proteins
are next.
5. Individual virus particles are assembled, after the
reproduction of the needed parts is completed.
6. Finally, release takes place, but usually in a rather
pernicious way, exploding or erupting while killing
the host cell.
Sure, we’ve all heard about the novel coronavirus
pandemic, but how many people understand what a
pandemic really is… aside from being a sickness that causes
sickness to millions, and in thousands of cases… death?
For many people, words like epidemic, pandemic,
epicenter and hotspot can cause much alarm. Perhaps
you’re wondering what all of these words mean. Well, let
me help you with that right now.
