Principles to remember that can help you to thrive in your
chosen career
Principle 1: KNOW WHERE YOU
ARE HEADED
Ask yourself these questions:
Where do you want to go?
What type of job gives you the most
happiness? What activities fire you
up like nothing can? This is deeply
connected with your personality
and skills.
Do you know what your chosen career really involves?
It is important for you to know and research on the background of the career
you want to pursue. Someday you’ll find that your initial notion of the career
that you choose to pursue is not what there is to it. You better prepare yourself
by knowing it. As narrated by Nelson Dy in his book, He dreamt of becoming a
high-powered marketing executive in a big company. He achieved this dream
but found out the hard way that marketing is no different with sales. He hates
sales. He was expecting to have advertising campaigns but it turned out it
largely involved a lot of selling of the manufactured products of the company.
So, it helps not only to know what career you want to be in, but also to make a
thorough investigation of the particulars of that career.
What would it take to achieve your career goals?
You may have already settled in your mind that you wish to pursue a
particular career. You may even be ready to live with the glamorous and non-
appealing aspects of the career. The next question is: how would you achieve
your goals? What kind of education and experience would you need to get to
where you’re going? Once you identify those requirements, map out how you
would obtain them.
