CHAPTER 3
BUILDING AND OFFICE SECURITY
1. Businesses prioritize building and office security to prevent discontented workers,
theft, sabotage, and fire.
2. They implement security procedures to guard against fired or under pressure
employees. Be alert to co-worker behaviour and understand procedures for
protecting yourself from these potential hazards.
1 Do not get involved in a verbal argument.
2 Leave the work area if you feel threatened and go to a safe area.
3 Report any unusual behaviour to your supervisor and/or company
security personnel.
CONTROLLING OUTSIDER ACCESS
1. Companies need to be open to the public for business, but not all office buildings
are accessible.
2. To protect employees and assets, businesses use various security
measures. Some have security personnel who sign visitor logs, while others send
employees to lobby or front office to screen visitors.
3. The log shows the visitor’s name, address, and the name of the person or office
being visited.
4. In smaller offices, the receptionist may be present in the front office and may screen
visitors.
