Ladies and Gentlemen,
I t is indeed a privilege for me to welcome you to the “Orientation
Seminar for Newly Accredited Members of the Permanent
Missions to the United Nations Office at Geneva” which is
organized on an annual basis by the United Nations Institute for Research and
Training (UNITAR).
UNOG traditionally pursues a policy of transparency and openness and
has always strived to fulfil the information needs of Permanent Missions. This
introductory seminar is part of UNOG's ongoing efforts to reach out to
Permanent Missions and foster an environment of mutual cooperation. Indeed,
as the United Nations' system is based on a symbiotic relationship between the
Organization and its Member States, the success of its operations depends to a
large extent on the existence of a smooth working relationship between the
