Ladies and Gentlemen,
Dear Friends,
I t is my great pleasure to welcome you all to the traditional Arts
and Crafts exhibition of the United Nations Women's Guild.
This exhibition is one of the two annual events organized by the
Guild and is as eagerly awaited as the coming Spring by all here at UNOG!
I am glad to have this opportunity to thank and encourage the members of
the Guild on behalf of the entire UN staff, for their tireless efforts in putting
these exhibitions together. But beyond the two main events of the Arts and
Crafts Exhibition and the Christmas Bazaar, I wish to pay tribute to the day-to-
day activities of the Guild which make such a difference to so many.
Through their generosity, altruism and dedication they contribute in a very
concrete way to furthering the ideals of the United Nations. The global peace,
stability and well-being that we strive so hard to achieve through norm-setting,
peace-keeping and economic development, start at grass-roots levels with
actions aimed at providing some psychological and material well-being to
destitute children. The funds collected by the Guild Christmas Bazaar serve
