100 Reflections that Crafted Geneva International
precisely this purpose. The Women's Guild has been able to support sixty-
seven projects in forty-four countries world-wide including one in our host
country of Switzerland. The projects are primarily directed towards
disadvantaged and/or handicapped children. This year, the Swiss project to
which the Guild's efforts have been directed is the Libellules Center for Blind
Children in Geneva.
Since its creation in 1970, the Women's Guild has witnessed a constant
growth in membership and activities. It now counts five hundred and fifty
members of eighty nationalities recruited from among UN personnel and
families, as well as among the staff of other international and intergovernmental
organizations, and among members of the Permanent Missions accredited to
Geneva. They are thus a crucial link in the complex interaction of all the
partners of “la Genève Internationale”.
Today's focus is on the Art and Craft Exhibition which includes the work
of thirty-four Guild members who, through different mediums and techniques
will be sharing different facets of their cultures. From the wide array of artistic
disciplines represented in this exhibition, it is clear that the artists have selected
very different means of expression. I wish to congratulate each and every
participant in the exhibition and encourage the Guild to continue in its worthy
endeavors.
Thank you for your attention and I invite you all to enjoy the exhibit!
