documents. UNOG provides interpretation, translation, documentation,
publishing and library services for these meetings and organizes and services
meetings held in Europe, the Middle East and Africa as well as meetings held
elsewhere in the world by UN bodies located at UNOG.
Geneva is still under-used as a conference place. For example, Security
Council was held in Geneva only once, on Palestinian issue.
But "Agenda for Peace" stresses the necessity to have the Security Council
meetings in places like Geneva.
B. The major concern of Geneva as all the UN system - crisis prevention,
management and solution.
Geneva, like New York, deals with all kind of crisis.
We are looking for cooperative means to provide the security in all aspects,
not only in traditional military-political.
In the political field - now former Yugoslavia. In the past - Middle East. In
the future - new countries, Liberia.
However, our major field - crisis prevention of human rights.
Now, after Vienna Conference there is a new challenge to make the human
rights the operational concept of the UN.

C. Like the UN, the Geneva is an agency of Know-How.
D. At last, the UN, though an intergovernmental body, speaks on behalf of
people and links with NGOs are of practical importance.
Collaboration has existed between non-governmental organizations and
the UN system ever since the inception of the United Nations. UNOG has de-
veloped a close relationship with NGOs of different categories. It should be
noted that 943 non-governmental organizations presently enjoy consultative
status with the Economic and Social Council and some 480 of them have estab-
lished an office or have accredited a permanent representative at UNOG.
