Finally, COP16 must also finalise the multilateral mechanism on the fair and equitable
sharing of benefits arising from the use of digital sequence information on genetic
resources and ensure that it is operational. This is of particular importance, especially in

terms of environmental justice and just transition , since it will determine the ability of
developing countries to benefit from their natural resources against the multinationals
that exploit these resources.

The 16th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological
Diversity (COP16) is due to bring together 15,000 participants, including 12 Heads of
State, 103 Environment Ministers and more than 1,000 journalists from around the
world.

What does this mean for ordinary people? What does this "competition" mean? If we
also think of the G20, then it is obvious that there is a lot of talk but little action. It's as if
their hopes have died as they watch the Russian Federation launch new destructive
missiles, the impact of Netanyahu’s insanity, and the earth shakes before turning into a
vast field of ruins.

The fact remains that the environment is paying the price for the procrastination of
politicians and, above all, of the most polluting countries.
