INDONESIA
ON A PLATE
Wisma Indonesia at 36 Mataroa Avenue, Wellington as the official
residence of the Indonesian Ambassador has welcomed many guests
throughout the years and hosted countless Welcome Lunches or
Dinners which gave us opportunities to showcase the best of
Indonesian cuisines to our guests. As food takes the centre stage,
culturally and socially in Indonesia, there is always endless animate
discussion about it. The old adage about food holds truth “Love goes
through the Stomach”, how to win people’s heart and engage them
through culinary delights
Food is indeed a national favourite subject that is embedded deeply
in our identity. Food is always the first subject or question that
comes to mind. Do not be surprised if someone asks you upon first
encounter whether you have eaten instead asking how you are.
We are fortunate to be posted in New Zealand where its produces
grow abundantly and seasonally. Indonesian dishes that have been
prepared at Wisma Duta not only looked better but tasted more
deliciously.
It is the beauty of my duty to introduce Indonesian cuisine in a
different light using beautiful traditional properties such as
traditional ceramics and Indonesian batik or ikat table cloths and
take the whole presentation to the next level without compromising
on the taste and appearance. To understand the origin of a cuisine is
a better way to introduce Indonesian diverse cuisine to our guests.
Hence, our presentation has always been thematic from one
particular region to another which always invited lively discussion Dewi Yahya
with our guests.
