Dear Cheryl and Haim,
As you recall, in 2008 we inaugurated the Saban Pediatric Medical Center at Soroka. This center and the Saban Birth and Maternity
Center, opened in 2011, together comprise the most advanced pediatric, obstetric, and gynecological medicine complex in Israel.
The establishment and operation of the two centers side by side was made possible by your generous donation. In 2013, your
generosity allowed us to inaugurate the Saban Pediatric Outpatient Center.
The operation of these centers constituted a historic milestone in the history of the Pediatrics Division and the Obstetrics and
Gynecology Division in particular and of Soroka Medical Center in general. The new buildings replaced old ones and solved the
problem of overcrowding, providing hospitalization and treatment conditions among the best in Israel for the benefit of the
residents of the Negev.
The Pediatrics Division at Soroka Medical Center is a national leader in medical excellence, use of new technologies, scope of
activities, training of medical and nursing students, and innovative research that contributes to the development of pediatrics
worldwide.
The Saban Pediatric Medical Center, one of the largest and foremost such centers in Israel, with 200 beds, includes three pediatric
wards, the Department of Pediatric Hemato-oncology, the Department of Pediatric Emergency Medicine, the Pediatric Intensive
Care Unit, the Pediatric Surgery Department, the Eating Disorders Unit, 12 clinics at the Saban Pediatric Outpatient Center, the
Pediatric Sleep Laboratory, and the Pediatric EEG Institute.
Soroka’s Division of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Saban Birth & Maternity Center treats tens of thousands of women annually,
serving as a leading center in Israel in the field in terms of service, teaching, and research while maintaining the professional and
human values of human dignity, integrity, professionalism, and excellence.
Negev residents are provided with the most advanced birth experiences, hospitalization, and medical services available in a specially
designed center with outstanding conditions.
The building, with its high standard of construction, is equipped with new and advanced medical equipment, includes two modern
emergency rooms (obstetrics and gynecology), state-of-the-art operating rooms, an array of 25 personal, spacious, and protected
delivery rooms, and an in-vitro fertilization (IVF) unit. The Saban Birth and Maternity Center has set a new standard for delivery
rooms in Israel.
In the eight years since the opening of our protected delivery rooms, women have felt safer and more secure giving birth at Soroka
in times of war and during various escalations of the security situation. We recently moved the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit to a
temporary site in the Maternity Center building for the protection of our tiny patients until we secure the full funding we need to
provide a more permanent solution.
The Negev region is singular in terms of obstetrics, gynecology, and pediatrics. A large number of babies are born every year
and the proportion of children in the population is the highest in the country. Moreover, the particular composition of the area’s
population means that many of the medical issues faced by our patients are unique and must be addressed both at the Saban Birth
and Maternity Center and at the Saban Pediatric Medical Center.
You have enabled us to combine quality and professional medical treatment and excellent conditions. The high level of medical
care and the unparalleled experience of the medical and nursing staff in Soroka, together with the improved physical conditions in
the wards, position the Saban Birth and Maternity Center and the Saban Pediatric Medical Center as leading centers in their fields.
