7.4     Present Progressive for Future Plans

                                  Statements                               Questions
                     I’m going to the beach tomorrow.           Is Olga going to the party tonight?
                     She’s not traveling to Norway this summer.  What are you doing this weekend?
                     They are finishing later.                  Are they finishing by 5:00?
                     We aren’t working tomorrow.                What are we eating for dinner?



                      1. Use the present progressive for definite future plans.   She’s meeting us at the airport.
                        The plan is often in the near future, or the details of   I’m not going to the concert tonight.
                        the plan, such as place or time, are specific.

                      2. When the present progressive is used for the future,   Future: I’m working this weekend.
                        we often include a future time expression, such as
                        tonight, tomorrow, next month, this summer, etc.
                        When there is no future time expression or future   Present: I’m working.
                        context, the present progressive refers to the
                        present.
