consort, Queen Camilla. It will go off with all the tradition
and pomp associated with British ceremonial proceedings,
even as some parts of the event will be streamlined at the
personal request of the King who has asked for a smaller
but still rich in history affair. For over 1,000 years, the
ceremony itself has remain unchanged.
The 260 year old Gold State Coach will make an appearance.
There will be crowns and tiaras in abundance. The tradition of
handing the King gold ingots will be scrapped, along with the need
for peers to wear ceremonial robes.
Westminster Abbey will convey both the grandeur and the deep
Anglican faith. Charles will take an oath as the Defender of the
Faith, but this time there will also be words that recognizes that
the King serves all religious faiths. There will be bands, music,
choirs, soldiers, horses, and a sense of the weight of history.
There will also be big TV screens, neighborhood big lunches and
pop concerts, fireworks, and fun. The event will be supported by
a Bank Holiday to give everyone a chance to take part. And yes,
there will be the folks, happily describing themselves as
antimonarchists, who believe that the whole thing is bunk and
that it should all have ended when Queen Elizabeth II passed
away in 2022. OF a different opinion, tens of thousands of others
will line the streets and wave the Union Jack.
Meeting some of the criticism head on is why the number of
royals participating has been reduced to only those designated
as working royals and the guest list has been scaled down from
the coronation of the young Queen Elizabeth II.
The new King is has the distinction of being the longest serving
waiting- in- the- wings monarch in the history of the realm. Unlike
his mother, who had recently married her Prince before being
crowned, Charles is a divorced man who married the new Queen
consort, a divorcee, after a period of very public scandals, one
bitter divorce, and a tragedy that brought about the death of the
mother of the next heir to the throne, Prince William. His wife,
Kate, wears the sapphire engagement ring that belonged to his
mother, Diana, Princess of Wales.
It's a new phase for the monarchy, the personal lives of the two
at the top more closely resembling the lives of the everyday
people who don't live in a palace. There is also family drama with
the non-working royal son and his formerly divorced American
wife providing the gossip factor, as well as two new family
members with royal titles now in the line of succession.
God Save the King and grant him sunshine on Coronation Day.
