One element of the Meeting With Children Approach
occurs in the meeting with parents. While not
essential to the Meeting With Children Approach, the
meeting with parents is an important by-product, as it
provides an opportunity for those with decision
making responsibilities to hear and engage with, the
voice of a child. Children and young people generally
will want some or all of their views brought to at least
one of their parents. The question is how can this
occur in a way that not only maintains the safety of
the whole family system (especially children), but also
creates the best opportunity for the views to be
heard.
Any discussion with parents needs to start from a
position that the parents are the experts on their
child. The expertise in meeting with parents is
