INTRODUCTION

In this section we have provided as much information
as is generally necessary for a family law specialist to
grasp the developmental tasks occurring for children
from early childhood through late adolescence.

Child and adolescent development has been explored
and understood from any different perspectives.
Theorists have generally focused on single areas of
development. In this chapter we have brought
together the theories of child development across
four age bands; children 18 months to 4 years,
children 5 to 7 years, children 8 to 12 years, and youth
