Vows….
‘Receive me, Lord, as you have promised, and I shall live; do not disappoint me in my hope’
RB, Chapter 58, v.21.
The Divine Office in the Abbey Chapel, 1980s
The unique Benedictine vow of STABILITY binds the monastic community in a place where
they live together in Christian community, growing in love of God and love of neighbour.
CONVERSION of life expresses fidelity to the whole monastic way of life; it is a path of
continuous conversion.
OBEDIENCE is offered firstly to God. Within the monastic life it encompasses obedience to
the Abbess and ‘mutual obedience’. Obedience ultimately helps the monastic grow in
conformity to Christ who was obedient to the Father’s will.
